Bill Sweetland established Springbank Vineyard in the red clay on limestone soils of Bannockburn in 2001. We met Bill not long after and made an immediate connection. He is one of those enviably interesting characters. For many years he was an engineer in India, playing polo in Leh on the highest polo field in the world; enjoying hunting, playing rugby and ocean racing. A true adventurer! He is someone who strives to do great things. We are lucky as he is now striving to grow great grapes.
This is our second ‘single vineyard’ Springbank. Its great concentration and bloody ferric character depict the ironstone found embedded in the site’s red clay and the powerful tannins are typical of the Moorabool Valley.
