The Mietta block, planted on the dark basalt-derived soils at the top of our block contains the first vines we planted. Each year we look forward to making wines from this special block from which we expect great concentration of flavour and texture. Some years are great, some good and some just devastating. 2015 was the latter. Not in quality. She has never disappointed there; but two barrels from five acres is too much, or more aptly, too little to bear! If we were making ‘offerings to the Gods’ the time to do so is Oct/Nov when the vines flower. For wind and rain at this time destroy the flowers and leave bunches, vines and their Vignerons bereft. The only consolation is the concentration.

“Dark cherry, earthy scents, savoury miscellaneous ‘mineral’ character, some truffle and mushroom stuff. Compelling perfume. Palate is lithe, well formed, sheathed in fine tannin, imbued with dark cherry and more earthy notes. Shapely, sexy, succulent wine. Stellar really.”
