2023 Dolcetto
As humans, we posess an innate curiosity and an insatiable desire to explore and create. The process of bringing a new idea to life, from conception to realization, is a thrilling and transformative experience that drives our winemaking at Lethbridge. In 2023, Anthony Delisio shared a beautiful parcel of Dolcetto from a high-altitude Adelaide Hills vineyard with us. During my trip in 2022 to the home of Dolcetto in Italy, I developed a new appreciation for this grape. For me Dolcetto is at its finest when it offers crunchy red fruit, violets and spice on the nose, doesnt overwhelm with power, and yet it is long and vital. I hope you enjoy this little exploration.
"From a single vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. The fruit is picked in April and brought in a refrigerated truck to Lethbridge. Bright crimson. Smells like Dolcetto! Aromas of morello cherry, spice and violets lead onto the brightly fruited, crunchy and very flavoursome palate. Gently grippy, cherry skin tannins make for a terrific food wine and one that will still be looking good four to six years from now." Halliday Wine Companion - 94 Points
"Lifted, floral and pretty, with bright aromas of red and black fruit and touches of spices and crushed stones. The palate is textural and rounded, with crunchy tannins and fine acidity. 30% whole-bunch fermentation adds another dimension, bringing freshness and purity. Drink or hold."
