2019 Malakoff Vineyard
The Story: South of Landsborough, on the slopes of Victoria's Pyrenees, lies this beautiful Shiraz vineyard. Planted in 2000 and run by father and son team Robert and Cameron John, this vineyard sits on richly coloured red (ferrous) soil. Each year the green harvest, where a portion of the bunches are cut before veraison brings the cropping levels right down to less than 5 tonnes per hectare. The wines can then really reflect the site’s terroir, making them rich in weight, with great length and structure.
Winemaking Description: Sourced from the fantastic Malakoff Vineyard in the Pyrenees we fermented this shiraz with the Que Syrah Syrah. Post fermentation the wine was pressed into 100% new French oak barrels where it aged for 12 months before being bottled.
The Wine: Intense red berries and spice dominate this wine; a good lick of oak adds to the power and length and deliciously drinkable tannins mean you just want more! It inhabits a goldilocks zone between the savory, pepperiness of Syrah and the sweet spiciness of shiraz.
