The Lethbridge 2012 Pinot Noir not only won a gold medal at the 2015 Sommelier Wine Awards in the category ‘New World Pinots, Rest of the World’ but went on to clinche the major prize of Best Wine of The Year 2015 at The Sommelier Wine Awards
The Sommelier Wine Awards is a wine competition with a difference. Britain’s only on-trade/restaurant wine competition, it focuses entirely on wines aimed at the on-trade. Since it started in 2007 it has grown to become the first point of reference for the UK's on-trade wine buyers and this year over 2500 wines were enterd.
And here is what the judges said about the Lethbridge 2012 Pinot Noir:
‘Serious but elegant, intensity and complexity took Lethbridge to the winners' circle. Athila Roos of The Arts Club admired the ‘classic, beautiful Pinot nose’ on this example, adding: ‘Fragrant red berries and petals, soft and inviting. Silky texture with extract and density, mineral undertones and a complex, layered finish.’ 'The palate is savoury and meaty, with texture and firm tannins,' said Vincent Pastorello of Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, suggesting matches ranging from turbot with a red wine sauce to boeuf bourguignon.
