This wine is a blend of Merlot (75%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
Made from low yielding fruit from the Lethbridge vineyard, each variety is processed and matured separately in 70% new French oak for 18 months. The wine is blended prior to bottling to produce a balanced style that will improve for many years.
A nose of bramble and blackberry with savoury undertones leads to a full palate of blackberry and earth, with hints of leaf. There is underlying length from supple tannins and acid intermingling with the fruit.
“Blackcurrant, blackberry, black olive and truffle, mint, and a fair serve of coffee oak. Medium bodied, all truffle and black olive with blackberry pastille sweetness to the fruit. Has a pleasing density to it without being heavy, black coffee flavour too, slightly sour tomato acidity, and grainy tannin firming up the finish. Certainly has character. Kind of hard to rate: it’s one of those wines that will find admirers, for sure.” 91 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
