Hailing from a small, high altitude vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. Made like a Pinot, destemmed, cold soaked then wild fermented. Aged in one year old French oak for 11 months to add texture. Bright, crunchy Morello cherries, a lick of spice and savouriness, with fine tannins.
A serendipitous phone encounter begins the story of this wine which is 100% Nebbiolo grown at the Malakoff vineyard in the the Pyrenees. The grapes undergo a long cool wild ferment, 45+ days on skin and aged in large format old oak for 2 years, with a further 2 years bottle age before release. On tasting you may discover red cherry and rose petal with soft plush tannins.
Hugo George is not often made but when it is, it’s an absolute delight. Savory notes of sour cherries, lavender, and plump, juicy Victoria Plumbs. The back palate has a woodfired, smokey finish with sweet spices and cured meat.
Earthy, savory, red fruits, and chalky tannins. Up here in the Moorabool Valley it gets the cooler environment it needs to produce the fragrant lusciousness that makes Cabernet Franc “the gardeners’ Cabernet”.
