It’s vintages like 2014 that make us appreciate the theory of Intelligent Design. The wet, windy weather of early October that wiped out flowering of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay didn’t harm the 'late bloomer' that is Shiraz. As the weather warmed, the Shiraz flowered and in summer set beautiful bunches.
When vintage arrived there was precious little Pinot Noir and Chardonnay but we did have a great yield of Geelong Shiraz that we have made into this delicious spicy, savoury, elegant wine. The 'intelligent design' of early and late ripening varieties means we had wine to make and now to drink.
