We are always on the lookout for new wine experiences so we are very pleased to be preparing our annual Pinot Noir Benchmark Tasting to be held at the new Carlton Wine Room.  A beautiful venue with great food and a thoughtful and concise wine list, currently including the Lethbridge 2008 Shiraz.  Everyone attending the tasting is also invited to stay for a Pinot Noir based dinner.  Go to the Events page for bookings.

Bon Voyage with Nuits Saint Georges

Tuesday, 12 July 2011 02:29

This week Ray has gone to Pakistan to climb really big mountains so we had a glass of wine with lunch on Friday to farewell him.  The Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru 'Les Prulieres' 2008 turned out to be an appropriate benchmark.  Light in colour and density, the wine was very floral and fruit driven, with lovely soft, chalky tannins.  Considering the similar seasons of Burgundy in 2008 and Geelong in 2011 it is good to see a cold, wet year is still able to produce clean and complex Pinot Noir.

Mietta Pinot Noir starts veraison

Monday, 16 January 2012 21:50
We have just seen the first signs of veraison in our vineyard with the Mietta and other blocks of Pinot Noir starting to change from green to red.  We have also used the irrigation in the last week for the first time in two years.  The vineyard looks great at the moment and all signs are pointing to 2012 being a great year in Geelong.

First Pinot of the Year

Saturday, 16 April 2011 08:37
The first Pinot Noir pressing of the year is always a much anticipated event at Lethbridge. As per normal the first Pinot is always from Hat Rock Vineyards on the Bellerine Peninsula. The slightly warmer daytime conditions and much warmer night time temperatures (being closer to the sea, less than 1km) than Lethbridge always mean that the grapes ripen 2-3 weeks earlier than our home blocks. This season has been unusually cool in Geelong so we have been harversting later than normal.
