Living Colour

Published in Winemaking Written by Manager
Vintage 2013 will be upon us very soon.  Veraison is well under way in the vineyards and we have been setting up bird scarers and preparing nets for the vines.  The first fruit will be coming in within the fortnight for sparkling wine and not long after for the other white varieties.  It's looking like another good vintage - touch wood.

Mietta Pinot Noir starts veraison

Published in Winemaking Written by Manager
We have just seen the first signs of veraison in our vineyard with the Mietta and other blocks of Pinot Noir starting to change from green to red.  We have also used the irrigation in the last week for the first time in two years.  The vineyard looks great at the moment and all signs are pointing to 2012 being a great year in Geelong.

Foot Stomping On the Side Of The Road

Published in Winemaking Written by Administrator
We have been bringing all of our red ferments in picking bins out into the sun during the day to increase their ferment temperatures.  The bins are foot stomped once or twice a day by one of us which means getting the boots, and usually the pants, off to get into the bins and give the berries a good squash and mix with our feet.
